...New 00Z Aviation Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 258 PM EDT Mon Mar 25 2024

Squeezed ridge along the eastern seaboard will succumb to the
advancing large-scale trough over the Plains as everything shifts
eastward into Tuesday. Pressure gradient will remain tight through
the period, continuing the gusty conditions over the state. Gusts
between 25 and 35 mph have been occurring, and winds will ramp up
again overnight as gusts return to 30 to 35 mph. Locations along the
north Georgia ridgeline could see isolated 40+ mph gusts overnight.
Latest model guidance has reduced the maximum gust speeds over the
topography, so at this point, have held off on any High Wind
Warnings, but a Wind Advisory does remain in place through Tuesday
afternoon. Downed trees and limbs could result in power outages.

Models are generally in agreement with showing potential light
reflectivity returns in and around the metro Atlanta area by sunrise
Tuesday, with better coverage of showers moving in by mid-late
morning. While the initial instability will limit anything more than
just showers, nose of instability, propelled northward by Gulf low,
will increase the chances of thunderstorms over middle Georgia by
mid-morning. Although the threat for severe weather is low, the main
hazards will continue to be gusty winds, periods of heavy rainfall,
and lightning. A few short-term models are trying to hint at more of
a severe threat, but at this time, the threat appears very
conditional. The SPC has the area outlooked for general
thunderstorms at this time. Total rainfall amounts are generally 1.5
inches or less for Tuesday into Wednesday, with rainfall amounts of
2+ inches over the southern forecast area.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 258 PM EDT Mon Mar 25 2024

Taking a look at the big picture on Wednesday morning. An expansive
trough will be draped over the central CONUS with a surface low
lifting into Canada and another developing across the eastern Gulf
Coast. A line of showers and thunderstorm should be most of the way
through the CWA early Wednesday morning as the cold front sweeps
through, however instability should be limited by this time.

Thursday morning sees more substantial development to the sfc low
along the east coast. Wrap around moisture and warm air will help to
counter post frontal conditions. This may destabilize the
environment across east GA and see some low PoPs with thunderstorms
possible. Precipitation will be localized and light since PWATs hang
around 0.5-1.0".

Conditions dry out by Thursday afternoon and through the end of the
weekend. A broad upper level trough will keep us in W to NW flow and
high pressure develops centered over the Florida Peninsula.

Temperatures will be mild with highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in
the upper 30s to mid 40s throughout the period.
