Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
344 AM MDT Sat Apr 13 2024

...A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for for the San Luis Valley
and for portions of the plains for Saturday afternoon through
Saturday evening...

...A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for portions of the area
for Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening...

.Discussion...

Critical fire weather conditions are expected across the San Luis
Valley and most of the plains today due to breezy westerly winds
gusting to 30 mph and single digit relative humidity values.
Temperatures will be around 10 to 15 degrees above normal, with
many locations warming into the mid 80s.

A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for Sunday for the San Luis
Valley and for Pueblo County. Northern El Paso County has also been
added to Sunday`s Fire Weather Watch as well. Teller County and
southern El Paso County could also see periods spotty critical fire
weather conditions on Sunday, but are not meeting criteria for
highlights at this time.

Monday will be the most widespread fire danger day of the forecast
period, with the strongest winds and the overall driest conditions
expected for our plains. A cold front is set to arrive sometime
Monday night or Tuesday, which could bring a brief increase in
humidity (and a break from fire weather) for Tuesday, but models
suggest that critical fire weather conditions return for the second
half of the week.

Very good to excellent smoke ventilation rates are expected across
the plains this afternoon, with good to very rates across the high
country. For tomorrow afternoon, good to very good rates are
expected for most locations.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
