.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

Showers with the first shortwave and accompanying surface cold front
moved east last night. Rain totals with this system were highest in
Orange County and the south facing slopes of the San Bernardino
Mountains where between 1/4 and 1 inch was reported. Rain totals
were much lighter in the rain shadowed areas of the Inland Empire
where only 0.05"-0.10" was reported at Riverside and Perris. In San
Diego County the rain totals ranged from a few hundredths in the
coastal zones to as much as a 1/2" on the west facing mountain
slopes. A rainfall summary is headlined on our homepage.

There will be a break in the precipitation this morning and even a
little bit of sun before clouds and showers with the second
shortwave advance across Southern California this afternoon and
evening. Similar to the first wave, showers today will be most
widespread in Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, and
less widespread and lighter in San Diego County. Some areas in the
southern half of the county may not see any rain at all.

Snow levels will be around 5500 feet today with a couple more inches
of accumulation in the San Bernardino Mountains above 7000 feet
where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 8 PM.

Today will be another breezy, cool day with highs from 60-65 in the
coastal and valley zones, from 35-45 in the mountains, in the 50s in
the high deserts, and the mid 70s in the lower deserts. Gusty winds
will continue in the Riverside and San Diego County mountains and
deserts where a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 AM Monday.

The trough moves east Monday with weak ridging bringing warmer
weather Tuesday through Thursday.
