.DISCUSSION...(Today Through Wednesday)
Issued at 158 AM MDT Thu Apr 18 2024

Mean central NOAM negative height anomaly will dominate the
weather through most of the weekend, bringing cold and breezy
conds to the region. Secondary cold front has shifted through the
region this morning, with breezy NW winds continuing most places.
A few sprinkles may be possible over SE Tripp county this morning,
otherwise expect dry weather through the day. Breezy NW winds can
be expected across NW SD today, esp this morning with near adv
level winds for period. Cool temps can be expected today with
highs generally in the 40s. Another impulse will rotate around the
upper low to the north of the region, supporting another cold
front into the region early Fri morning. This will allow temps to
drop into the teens/20s most places (10-15 degrees below seasonal
norms) along with increasing winds across far NW SD. Additionally,
a weak impulse will skirt the far southern FA and may support few
flurries as any precip will fight a very dry BL. Even cooler
temps expected Fri with highs in the 30s/40s. Another impulse will
once again skirt the far southern FA Fri night, but once again,
very dry BL will limit any precip to flurries. Coldest temps are
expected to occur Sat morning as a sfc ridge will pass over the
region, supporting light winds and mostly clear skies most places.
Shortwave ridging and WAA will ensue Sat and persist into next
week. This will bring much warmer temps to the FA Sun into next
week. However, unsettled NW flow will support periodic chances for
rain/snow showers next week.
