.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 259 PM EDT Sun Apr 21 2024

Ridging over the upper Midwest building into the region today
which will allow for clearing skies and light winds which makes
for good radiational cooling conditions. Have issued a Frost
Advisory across the entire CWA from Midnight EDT tonight until 8
AM EDT tomorrow morning. There is a concern though that the
synoptic warming with the incoming ridge may offset some of the
cooling however even if that happens some areas such as low
lying areas and especially the northeastern portions of the CWA
will see the potential for some frost. In this case took a
better safe than sorry approach. So you may want to protect
those cold sensitive plants and animals overnight tonight as
lows 31-38 degrees will be possible.

With ridging moving in further on Monday should see the high
temperatures rebound nicely with highs back into the 60s.
Troughing begins to move in on Tuesday which will bring
increased chances of showers with a slight chance of a rumble of
thunder or two Tuesday afternoon. Winds will also be breezy to
gusty with gusts around 25 mph possible. The trough will start
a cooling trend across the area for Tuesday through Thursday
when highs on Wednesday will only get into the 50s while by
Thursday morning we see another cold morning with the
possibility of frost. Lows on Thursday morning will be in the
upper 20s to lower 30s. Of course any lingering clouds could
keep things a bit warmer so will need to keep monitoring that
situation.

By the end of the week and into the weekend higher amplitude
ridging will bring warmer temperatures and by the weekend highs
will be in the 70s. On Sunday, a few locations may flirt with
the lower 80s. With the warmer temperatures we will also see an
increase in showers and thunderstorms.
