.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through next Sunday)
Issued at 149 PM CDT Sun Apr 28 2024

A somewhat zonal flow will prevail across the southern tier of the
country Monday but low to mid level moisture is expected to
increase across southern portions of the CWA Mon night. This will
provide more humid conditions across west central Texas Tuesday
with southerly winds prevailing. A weak shortwave trough will move
across northwest Texas Tues night and this will provide isolated
strong to severe thunderstorms across extreme northern portions of
the CWA where SPC has a marginal risk of severe weather for day 3
across northern portions of Haskell and Throckmorton counties. An
unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue Wednesday into
Thursday with a 500mb trough across the western United States
Wednesday moving eastward across the Rockies on Thursday. The
dryline across west Texas will provide a focus for showers and
thunderstorms to develop and move eastward into portions of west
central Texas Wed night through Thursday night. A weak cold front
is expected to move through northwest Texas Thurs night and
through our CWA Friday morning. The ECMWF progs some elevated
convection developing Fri night so will mention a slight chance of
showers and thunderstorms mainly for early Friday morning and
late Fri night. The global models are currently showing better
rain chances for the weekend as low to mid level moisture
increases across most of the state of Texas Saturday into Sunday
and a shortwave upper level trough moves across the southern
plains Sat night into Sunday. This will provide a chance of
showers and thunderstorms across west central Texas through the

(06Z TAFS)

VFR conditions currently present across the area with light and
variable winds. Scattered low clouds are expected to build west
overnight, primarily impacting the KJCT and KBBD terminals. Have
included some TEMPO groups to account for some uncertainty in
ceiling coverage and potential visibility reductions. Any drops in
ceilings/visibilities will lift to VFR by mid morning with VFR
conditions expected for the rest of the afternoon. Winds will
generally be out of the south/southwest this afternoon at less
than 10 kts before backing to the southeast and picking up at some
sites late in the period.
