Today will be the final day of an extended stretch of critical fire weather. Gusty west winds will be strongest along and just east of the northern mountains. A backdoor front enters from the east overnight, ushering in a more moist airmass and creating gusty east winds through the gaps of the central mountain chain. Showers and storms will favor the northern mountains Thursday afternoon through Saturday night, with the greatest precipitation coverage on Friday and Saturday afternoon. Mostly cloudy to overcast skies will create poor to fair ventilation across eastern NM Thursday through Saturday as well. Elevated fire weather conditions return to western NM early to mid-next week.
