.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM EDT Wed Apr 10 2024
Currently - An unusually amplified deep layered trough is working
its way eastwards across the United States this evening and is
pushing out an equally amplified ridge just off the Atlantic
coast. A robust surface high well of the Atlantic coast extends a
ridge southwestwards across the Bahamas and Cuba while a surface
low is driving northeastward along the Mississippi Valley. The
Keys are right on the edge of strong winds flowing into the
deepening low. While winds are considerably stronger to our north,
local breezes have remained moderate to fresh. Despite the
healthy boundary layer flow with excellent low level veering
showers have been unable to form and even stratocumulus has
struggled this evening. The main reason for this is poor deep
layered moisture and some very low level Cuban driven inhibition.
Short Term Update - The previously mentioned amplified trough will
continue to pivot through the eastern United States. Overall, no
significant changes is expected in the synoptic character around
the Keys. For the time being, the Keys will remain within the
awkward zone between the low to our northwest and north and the
ridge off to our southeast and south. There is still a window for
winds to strengthen slightly over the next few hours. Despite
continued good low level lift, rain chances will remain limited at
best due to deep layered moisture remaining weak and persistent
low level inhibition. Warm and fairly humid conditions will
prevail with temperatures not moving from current mid to upper 70s
readings and dew points likely ticking up a point or two, closer
to the mid 70s.
