Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas... * Until 1000 AM CDT. * At 858 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from 16 nm north of Manchac to 30 nm southwest of Lake Maurepas, moving east at 35 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats...damage vessels and oil rigs...and create suddenly higher waves.
