Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Chicago IL
211 PM CST Thu Mar 7 2024

...Steady rainfall tomorrow afternoon and evening may lead to minor
flooding...

A period of steady rainfall is expected to move into the area on
Friday, lingering into the evening. Widespread rainfall amounts up
to one inch are possible across northeast Illinois and northwest
Indiana, with amounts of 1-2 inches possible in isolated areas.
Dormant vegetation and elevated soil moisture conditions will reduce
infiltration and allow for much of this rainfall to runoff into area
streams and rivers.

Ensemble river forecast guidance indicates the possibility of
multiple rivers reaching bankfull due to this rainfall. Urban areas
and poor drainage areas may also experience areas of standing water.
While widespread flooding is not likely, a few river locations may
near flood stage by this weekend.

This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts
are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor
forecasts including the possibility of flood watches, warnings, and
advisories.

An update to this outlook will be issued by tomorrow morning.
