...WARM NIGHTS HAVE BEEN THE RULE RATHER THAN THE EXCEPTION FOR
PORTLAND SO FAR THIS SEASON...

If you live in Portland and it seems like nights have been warmer
than usual this summer, your sense is correct. While afternoon high
temperatures have thus far been closer to normal than many of our
recent summers, overnight low temperatures have been unusually warm
this season.

While 1981-2010 average daily low temperatures at Portland Airport
peak at 59 degrees during late July and early August, temperatures
have struggled to fall into the 50s this summer. In fact, through
August 14th, this season has had the 3rd most calendar days where
temperatures failed to fall below 60 degrees:

Number of calendar days with low temperatures in the 60s or above
                (Portland Airport, Jan 1 - Aug 14)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
                       1. 43 days - 2015
                       2. 37 days - 2018
                   *** 3. 36 days - 2019 ***
                       4. 30 days - 2014
                       5. 29 days - 1998 and 1985

In addition, Portland Airport recently came close to the all-time
record for consecutive days with low temperatures in the 60s or
above:

Consecutive calendar days with lows in the 60s or above
                        Portland Airport
-----------------------------------------------------------------
               1. 19 days - 1998 (14 July to 1 Aug)
           *** 2. 17 days - 2019 (26 July to 11 Aug) ***
               3. 14 days - 2007 (10 July to 23 July)
               4. 13 days - 2015 (24 June to 6 July)
                  13 days - 2004 (13 July to 25 July)

One final tidbit... The last time Portland Airport reported a low
temperature that was below normal was July 25... 21 days ago.
