To: Subscribers, Emergency Management officials, news media, and
other users.

Subject: Reference datum change for the Middle Fork of the
Feather River near Portola

On October 1, 2019, the California Department of Water Resources
(CADWR) will change the reference datum used on their river gage,
the Middle Fork of the Feather River near Portola, to the North
American Datum 1988 (NAVD88). Observed and forecast data for the
Middle Fork of the Feather River near Portola will display in the
current relative datum until October 1, 2019, when it will
transition to display in NAVD88 true elevation above mean sea
level.

The change to NAVD88 will affect the action and flood stages at
this location. THE SURFACE ELEVATION OF THE RIVER AT THESE STAGES
WILL NOT CHANGE, ONLY THE REFERENCE STAGE WILL BE CHANGING. The
new stages are offset by 4843.5 feet. The new monitor and flood
stages on October 1, 2019 will be:

Middle Fork of the Feather River near Portola
New/Old Action Stage:         4851.0 feet/7.5 feet
New/Old Flood Stage:          4852.5 feet/9.0 feet
New/Old Moderate Flood Stage: 4853.5 feet/10.0 feet
New/Old Major Flood Stage:    4855.5 feet/12.0 feet
