FIRE DANGER STATEMENT...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
1222 PM AST SUN APR 15 2018

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR THE SOUTH
COASTAL PLAINS OF PUERTO RICO...

RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 36% WAS OBSERVED AT THE CAMP SANTIAGO RAWS
IN SALINAS WITH WINDS OF 18 MPH. EVEN THOUGH THE KBDI IS JUST
SLIGHTLY UNDER 600, FUEL MOISTURE IS ESTIMATED AT 8% FOR THAT
STATION. THE CABO ROJO STATION REPORTED WINDS OF UP TO 21 MPH, BUT
THE LATEST OBSERVATION HAD WINDS OF 18 MPH WITH A RH OF 49% WITH
A FUEL MOISTURE ESTIMATE OF 10%. KBDI FOR CABO ROJO IS ESTIMATED
TO BE UNDER 500 BUT NEARBY GUANICA HAS A KBDI OF OVER 550. GIVEN
THAT TODAY IS EXPECTED TO BE A FAIRLY DRY AND BREEZY DAY, THESE
OBSERVED CONDITIONS MAY CONTINUE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS, WHICH
ELEVATE FIRE WEATHER RISK.

FIRE AND EMERGENCY OFFICIALS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE BECOMING MORE CONDUCIVE FOR THE IGNITION AND
SPREAD OF WILD FIRES.

FIRE DANGER STATEMENTS ARE ISSUED WHEN FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE APPROACHING, BUT NOT MEETING OR EXCEEDING, RED FLAG WARNING
CRITERIA.
