Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
306 PM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

.DISCUSSION...

The main fire weather issue over the next week really just
concerns this afternoon as humidity values approach 25% and
southerly winds gust over 25 mph. Plentiful moisture streams into
the region beginning tomorrow as thunderstorms develop by evening
and overspread the Sandhills into the nighttime. Rain showers
continue for much of Friday, while a followup system brings
additional rain for Saturday into Sunday. Precipitation amounts
exceeding 1" are appearing more likely, while some locations may
approach 2" of liquid depending where the heavier thunderstorms
line up. Of note, gusty winds will continue the next few days with
southeasterly 30+ mph tomorrow, switching to northwest 30 mph
Friday, and northerly 30 mph Sunday. Looking into next week,
temperatures warm into the 70s and conditions dry out, but the
threat of critical fire weather is low.
