Area Forecast Discussion

...New UPDATE...

.UPDATE...
Issued at 1050 AM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Only minor changes to wind, sky, & MaxT grids were made to
reflect current trends. The remainder of the forecast remains on
track.

Low clouds persist this morning across northeast Oklahoma and
northwest Arkansas... but should start to thin out late this
morning and afternoon. Locations closer to the MO border will
likely see clouds hang on the longest. Additional high clouds
begin to spread into the region from the west this afternoon. As
yesterday`s upper level system continues to depart the region,
high pressure fills in behind it with easing pressure gradients.
This will allow for west-northwest winds to become lighter
throughout the day. Otherwise, high temperatures will stay on the
cool side today... likely remaining in the low to mid 50s. That
being said, zones in NE OK and NW AR may struggle to climb out of
the 40s, especially for those who remain under cloud cover the
longest.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today)
Issued at 353 AM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Wraparound cloudiness will hang around into this afternoon across
northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, but enough sun should
occur later today to allow temperatures to warm into the upper 40s
to mid 50s. Breezy west to northwest winds will continue today,
but will begin to diminish towards sunset.

.LONG TERM...
(Tonight through Monday)
Issued at 353 AM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Very cold temperatures are expected tonight, with many locations
falling to near or below freezing. Freeze headlines will likely
be needed, but will defer to the day shift on this. Mid and high
level cloud cover will increase Wednesday as a weak shortwave
approaches the area, and a few sprinkles may also occur,
especially in parts of southeast Oklahoma.

After another chilly night Wednesday night, a warming trend will
begin Thursday and continue through the weekend. South winds will
become gusty Friday through the weekend, with a corresponding
increase in fire weather concerns. Friday may be the day of
greatest concern as humidity values will be lowest that day.

The next storm system is due to arrive early next week bringing a
chance of showers and thunderstorms, with cooler temperatures to
follow for the middle part of next week.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 627 AM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

MVFR ceilings are stubbornly hanging on around 3,000 feet over
far northeast Oklahoma and far northwest Arkansas early this
morning. The low clouds are mainly affecting BVO, FYV, XNA, and
ROG and should erode/lift by 15-16z, with a small chance they last
through 18z at FYV, XNA, and ROG. VFR conditions will prevail
thereafter at all sites. Breezy & gusty W/WNW winds will persist
into this afternoon, with gradual decreasing wind speeds late this
afternoon before becoming nearly calm overnight tonight.
