.THE 2017-2018 WINTER SEASON WAS COOLER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL AT
DULUTH MN...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE WINTER SEASON WAS 10.6 DEGREES WHICH
WAS 2.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 13.3 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST
TEMPERATURE FOR THE WINTER WAS 45 DEGREES ON JANUARY 26TH. THE
LOWEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE WINTER WAS -26 DEGREES ON DECEMBER 31ST.
NO MONTHLY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE BROKEN THIS WINTER.

THE WINTER OF 2017-2018 WAS ABOVE NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH A
TOTAL OF 3.19 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION RECORDED FOR THE SEASON. THIS
WAS 0.21 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 2.98 INCHES. THE GREATEST
AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY
24TH TO 25TH WHEN 0.49 INCHES WAS RECORDED. AT LEAST 0.01 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION FELL ON 35 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.10 INCHES FELL ON 11 DAYS.
NO MONTHLY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE BROKEN THIS WINTER.

THE WINTER OF 2017-2018 WAS BELOW NORMAL FOR SNOWFALL WITH A TOTAL
OF 46.7 INCHES OF SNOW FOR THE WINTER. THIS WAS 1.8 INCHES BELOW THE
NORMAL OF 49.5 INCHES. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF SNOWFALL IN A 24 HOUR
PERIOD OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 24TH TO 25TH WHERE 7.2 INCHES OF SNOW
WAS RECORDED. NO MONTHLY SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE BROKEN THIS WINTER.
HOWEVER...FEBRUARY WAS THE 8TH SNOWIEST ON RECORD WITH A TOTAL OF
24.2 INCHES OF SNOW. THE NORMAL SNOWFALL FOR FEBRUARY IS 12.4
INCHES.

THE AVERAGE WIND SPEED FOR THE WINTER WAS 11.0 MPH. THE HIGHEST
SUSTAINED WIND OCCURRED ON DECEMBER 5TH WITH A SPEED OF 36 MPH OUT
OF THE WEST NORTHWEST. THE HIGHEST PEAK WIND GUST OCCURRED ON
DECEMBER 5TH WITH A SPEED OF 47 MPH OUT OF THE WEST NORTHWEST.

THERE WERE 4875 HEATING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE WINTER WHICH WAS 222
ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4653. THERE WERE 0 COOLING DEGREE DAYS FOR THE
WINTER WHICH WAS NORMAL.

THE OUTLOOK FOR SPRING...NORMAL HIGHS START IN THE UPPER 20S IN
EARLY MARCH AND WARM TO THE MID 60S BY THE END OF MAY. NORMAL LOWS
START IN THE LOW TEENS ABOVE ZERO AND WARM TO THE MID 40S BY THE END
OF THE SEASON. NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR SPRING IS 7.15 INCHES.THE
NORMAL SNOWFALL FOR THE SPRING IS 20.5 INCHES. THE LATEST CLIMATE
PREDICTION CENTER OUTLOOK INDICATES THAT THERE IS NO CLEAR SIGNAL
FOR ABOVE OR BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND ODDS ARE TILTED TOWARD
ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION.
