Fire Weather Forecast for Northeast and North Central Colorado
National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO
530 AM MDT Thu Apr 19 2018

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM MDT
THIS EVENING FOR SOUTH PARK, THE SOUTHERN FRONT RANGE FOOTHILLS,
AND PORTIONS OF THE EASTERN PLAINS...

.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...Strong southerly winds will
develop on the plains today ahead of an approaching storm system.
Red Flag conditions are expected to develop from South Park to
Denver and Limon by midday, spreading northward into Weld and
Morgan counties by early afternoon. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be
common, with a few gusts to 50 mph possible. The area along the
foothills from northern Jefferson county to Fort Collins will be
sheltered from the wind most of the day, but could become windy in
the late afternoon and early evening with near Red Flag conditions
for a few hours. Further east on the plains, the humidities will
be higher, but it will be very windy.

The strong winds will continue overnight, and will make humidities
rise slowly this evening. Scattered rain and snow showers will
develop overnight, with some high mountain areas picking up light
snow accumulations by morning.

LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Friday through Monday...
The next spring storm will move across the region Friday into Saturday
bringing accumulating snowfall to the Front Range Mountains, Foothills,
and Palmer Divide above 6000 feet. Elsewhere across the I-25 Corridor
and northeast plains expect rain or a mix of rain and snow. This should
help to greatly reduce the fire danger over upcoming week. By Sunday,
conditions will start to dry out with temperatures reaching into the 60s
Sunday and Monday.

...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty erratic winds...
...All surface winds are 20-Foot...10-Minute averaged winds...
...CWR is Chance of Wetting Rain - 0.10 inch or more liquid...
...24 HR Trends are based on averages over the respective zone
groups and may not match the actual forecast values
                    shown in those groups...
