.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 300 PM CDT Thu Apr 11 2024

Tonight through Wednesday: Much quieter weather is expected as we
finish up the week and go through the weekend and into early next
week. The upper trough crossing the forecast area today will
continue moving east of us tonight with much drier air continuing
to surge in behind it in northwest flow. Expect surface wind to
diminish this evening, but wind may get a bit gusty during peak
heating Friday, especially for eastern MS. As we go through the
weekend, a longwave ridge will slowly migrate eastward across the
central CONUS, and this will control weather for the forecast
area, bringing dry conditions and warming temperatures. The ridge
will deflect shortwave troughs around region, but we should begin
to them get closer by mid week as the mean ridge axis shifts to
our east, and this will result in increasing shower chances over
northwest portions of the area. Otherwise, expect southerly wind
to pick up some early to mid next week with surface high pressure
shifting to our east resulting in a tightening pressure gradient
and increased mixing. /EC/
