Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
351 AM MDT Thu May 2 2024

....A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from noon until 9 PM MDT
today for the San Luis Valley...

....A Red Flag Warning has been issued from 11 AM until 8 PM MDT
Friday for the San Luis Valley...

.Discussion...

Hot and dry conditions, combined with strong west to southwest
winds, will produce critical fire weather conditions across the
San Luis Valley today, and again on Friday.

Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are
expected across the eastern plains today, then more widespread
storm activity is expected Friday across the eastern plains, with
a few of the storms potentially becoming strong to severe.

Unsettled conditions are expected for Saturday, then a stronger
low pressure system will move across the Great Basin on Sunday,
bringing some precipitation to the mountains, and warm and dry
conditions to the rest of the district. High fire danger will
likely return starting Monday.

Surface-based inversions will begin to break between 0800 and
0900 this morning, with ventilation rates improving to Excellent
for the higher terrain, and Good to Very Good for the plains,
between 1300 and 1400 this afternoon, and will remain such until
1900 this evening. Smoke dispersion for Friday is forecast to have
similar timing and will be improved, with all areas seeing
Excellent ventilation.
