Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
1113 PM MDT Wed Apr 18 2018

...A RED FLAG WARNING has been issued for 11 AM through 7 PM
Thursday for gusty winds, low relative humidity values, high
Haines indices and dry fuels for fire weather zones 220 through
222, 224 through 233 and 235, which includes the San Luis Valley,
the lower elevations of the Sangre de Cristo, Wet Mountains, Pikes
Peak and the Rampart Range, and Lake, Chaffee, Fremont, El Paso,
Pueblo, Crowley, Huerfano, Las Animas, Bent and Otero Counties...

.Discussion...

Critical fire weather conditions will spread across much of southern
Colorado on Thursday. Humidity values will drop to around the 15
percent threshold for northern portions of the region, and given the
critically dry fuels, have expanded the Red Flag Warnings for Thursday
northward to include Teller, El Paso, Crowley and Bent counties.
Southerly winds will increase across all of the district with gusts
to around 40 mph expected. Moisture will increase from the south
during the day, particularly for the counties near the Kansas border
which should keep humidities higher for those areas.

By Thursday night, a much needed wet pacific storm is expected to bring
wetting rains and high elevation snows to most if not all of the
district. The best chance of precipitation will be from Thursday night
into Saturday morning.

Dry conditions will return to the region by Sunday.

Smoke dispersion is expected to be very good or better both
tomorrow and Friday
