Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
415 AM MDT Wed Apr 17 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM MDT THIS
EVENING FOR MOST OF THE SOUTHERN I-25 CORRIDOR AND FREMONT
COUNTY...

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM
MDT THIS EVENING FOR THE SAN LUIS VALLEY...

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 7 PM MDT THURSDAY FOR
THE SAN LUIS VALLEY...

.DISCUSSION...

Critical fire weather conditions are expected today over most of
the I-25 corridor, Fremont county and the San Luis valley. Near
critical fire weather conditions will be possible over the
remainder of the district today.

For tomorrow, critical fire weather conditions are expected over
the San Luis valley.

Critical fire weather conditions may once again redevelop over
the San Luis Valley on Friday.

Windy and dry conditions will occur today across the entire
district, and this will cause critical to near critical fire
weather conditions to develop.

Later tonight, a strong cold front will move across the plains,
and this will bring much cooler weather to the plains on Thursday.
However, the San Luis Valley will remain in the warm and dry
airmass on Thursday , and critical fire weather conditions will
once again occur over the valley by Thursday afternoon.

Similar conditions will occur over the area on Friday, with the
plains remaining cool and the San Luis Valley remaining windy and
dry, and this will allow critical fire weather conditions to once
again occur over the valley floor.

Cooler weather with less windy conditions are expected for this
weekend region-wide. Showers may become widespread over the region
on Saturday. Dry weather returns Sunday.

Smoke dispersion will be excellent this afternoon and good on
Thursday afternoon.
