.DISCUSSION...(Today Through Friday)
Issued at 205 AM MDT Sat Apr 20 2024

Semi-progressive NW flow will dominate the weather through next
week. WAA will ensue today as a shortwave ridge aloft pushes east.
Sfc ridge will slide SE today, with clearing skies, light winds,
and continued cool BL conds. Temps will top out in the 40s most
places with perhaps a few 50s on the SD plains. Another cold night
in store tonight with cold high pressure in place supporting
light winds and clear skies. WAA will ramp up Sun with much warmer
conditions. However, pressure falls will support increasing
southerly winds with gusts over 30 mph likely on the plains at
times in the afternoon. High most places will be in the 60s with a
few 70s possible in NE WY. A fast moving NW flow impulse will
advect through the region Sunday night into Monday. The main
impact from the this system will be gust southerly winds Sunday
night on the SD plains, and gusty NW winds Monday behind the cool
front, mainly across NW SD. A few light showers will also be
possible. However, lack of appreciable moisture (per closed GOMEX)
will highly limit coverage in the FA, with only slight chances
over NW SD. Unsettled NW flow will then continue to support
periodic chances for mainly rain showers next week with a few
thunderstorms possible later in the week as better moisture
profiles return, along with breezy winds at times. Overall,
temperatures will be seasonably mild most days.
