.DISCUSSION...(This Evening Through Friday)
Issued at 121 PM MDT Fri Apr 19 2024

Current Water Vapor and upper air models show closed low centered
over Ontario with northwest flow over our region. Gusty northwest
winds in the boundary layer bringing CAA over the region, with
temps well below normal for this time of year. Another wave
rotates around the low moving through the area tonight into
Saturday, will reinforce cold air over the forecast area. Some
light precipitation will be possible during the day Saturday,
mainly over the central Black Hills with very light snow. Later
Saturday, WAA starts moving in as low level flow turns westerly
and upper ridge slides over the rockies, entering the northern and
central plains by Sunday. Temps are expected to climb back to
above normal for Sunday and the remainder of the forecast period.
LLJ developing over the area Sunday coupled with good mixing will
allow for gusty winds nearing advisory level for Sunday afternoon.
Mild ridge tries to stay in place for much of next week, however
a couple embedded shortwaves hint at some precipitation throughout
the week. Towards the end of the week, upper trough moves into
the PNW, and eventually over the northern rockies, signaling a
greater potential for precipitation over next weekend.
