VFR conditions should prevail through the TAF period. A broad
Denver cyclone has been observed again this afternoon with the
main boundary/wind shift located between BJC and DEN. Current
expectation is for this to remain fairly steady-state through the
next couple of hours, and then gradually weaken later this evening
as drainage flow establishes.
Next forecast challenge comes early Thursday as models hint at
some potential for a brief period of fog or very low stratus
tomorrow at DEN. BUFKIT profiles would favor fog, but the
majority of guidance keeps this just north/northeast of the field
in southern Weld county.
Finally, there`s still some uncertainty in the winds and overall
convective/shower potential Thursday afternoon, with DEN
reasonably close to the dryline. Will need to re-evaluate with
tonight/tomorrow AM hi-res guidance to get a better feel, but a
broad period of VCTS/VCSH is likely. Eventually may see some lower
cigs develop after 00z as well.

VFR conditions are expected during the next 24 hours at all 3
taf sites, KPUB, KALS and KCOS. Winds will be diurnal the rest
of tonight into tomorrow morning, but will pick up from the
south through southwest during the early afternoon becoming
gusty from the west by late afternoon and northwest to north-
northwest at the end of the forecast period. Some mid level
broken clouds will enter the region during the evening hours.

Gusty west to southwest winds will drop off to light terrain
driven winds over the next few hours. Look for isolated showers
developing over the higher terrain of eastern Utah after about

04Z when winds transition to southeast. Light southeast winds will
prevail overnight, but there is a low chance that outflow winds
from showers to the northwest could switch winds to northwest for
several hours any time from roughly 06-09Z. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are likely from 18Z into the evening.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Isolated showers in
southwest Wyoming and northwest Utah will diminish into the
evening. Outflow winds from showers in northwest Utah could
enhance northwest flow through roughly 09Z throughout northern
Utah. Gusty southwest winds will diminish into the evening
throughout southern Utah. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are
likely for southwest Wyoming and most of Utah from 18Z into the
evening.

Isolated rain showers will linger tonight into Thursday morning, but
by Thursday afternoon convection will develop/become widespread. The
chance of any terminal having a thunderstorm move directly over it
is too low for prevailing TS at this time, but the chance is high
enough for VCTS at KJAC from 19Z-00Z Thursday afternoon. Have
prevailing VFR at all terminals through the TAF period, but brief
reductions to MVFR are possible (20-30%) if a thunderstorm directly
impacts a terminal. Most terminals have prevailing VCSH Thursday
afternoon as scattered showers and thunderstorms pass through the
area. Gusty erratic wind will occur with thunderstorms and
thunderstorm outflow boundaries. Wind gusts at high as 40 mph will
be possible with thunderstorms.
Tonight an area of -RA is likely (60-70%) to be near KLND/KRIW from
06Z-10Z, so have VCSH to account for this, but some -RA is certainly
possible (30%). Mountain obscuration will occur at times as BKN040-
BKN100 CIGS continue across the area over the next 24 hours.

Shower and thunderstorm activity is waning this evening, but we will
still have a few more hours with the possibility for a brief
downpour and a few lightning strikes. Southerly flow over the High
Plains will usher in low-level moisture through the morning hours.
Models have backed off slightly on the intensity of fog/low CIGs
through Thursday morning, but a period of MVFR to LIFR conditions is
still likely at KBFF, KAIA, KSNY, and KCYS. The latter two are the
most likely to see periods of IFR, while MVFR is favored for the
former. This should clear by the late morning hours as southeast
winds increase again. Another round of shower and thunderstorm
activity will develop after about 21z Thursday and gradually
increase in coverage through the evening hours. These storms will

Moisture return is ongoing across the Plains. Ceilings are
forecasted to gradually drop over the next few hours as IFR to
LIFR conditions continue to remain likely; some patchy dense fog
remains possible throughout the night but am anticipating
stratus will be the primary reduction in flight category.
Showers and storms remain forecasted at KMCK tonight as well
starting around 07Z with a low chance that will become severe
with large hail and torrential rainfall the primary hazard. LLWS
is also occurring at each terminal as the low level jet aids in
the moisture return.
Stratus looks to remain at each terminal for most if not all of
the day with the exception being KGLD where a dry line will help
erode clouds. The other story will be the severe thunderstorm
potential with the relative higher confidence at this time that
KMCK will be impacted. All hazards of severe weather will be
possible.

Aviation weather conditions will deteriorate this evening with
widespread IFR/LIFR conditions developing particularly in the
09-15Z time frame...later up north toward HYS and earlier down
south toward LBL terminal as the warm front lifts north. The
forecast at HYS terminal is particularly challenging in that a
large cluster of thunderstorms will develop overnight near or
just east of HYS, which will likely spread an outflow boundary
south across HYS some time in the 09-13Z time frame. This
thunderstorm outflow boundary will likely result in an easterly
wind (if not slightly northeasterly) and may reach as far as DDC
mid-morning, however we will keep winds at DDC out of the
south-southeast Thursday morning. HYS will likely remain in the
low stratus and IFR/LIFR flight category much of the day
Thursday.

For the 00Z TAFs, expect the return of MVFR to IFR cigs along with
some BR to the terminal sites this evening and tonight. Conditions
should improve from west to east Thursday morning. South to
southwest winds will also increase and become gusty around mid to
late Thursday morning, then persist throughout the afternoon hours.
In addition, it appears the main threat for thunderstorms during
this forecast cycle may remain east of the terminal sites at this
time.

A dry slot approaching from the west will force the high cloud
deck currently over the region eastward into TX. Winds aloft will
strengthen with this dry slot and lead to greater coverage of
mountain waves and turbulence overnight. A weak surface boundary
draped over far eastern NM late today will allow IFR low cigs to
redevelop along the TX/NM border overnight. Confidence on any low
cigs at KTCC is low so there is no mention in the 00Z TAF, but
satellite and obs will be monitored for updates. The main impact
to aviation will occur Thursday with widespread strong winds and
BLDU. Wind gusts of 35 to 50 kt will be common with the strongest
gusts focused over eastern NM. BLDU may lead to IFR cigs/vsbys
around KROW and KCVS aft 19Z. An Airport Weather Warning for
strong winds is very likely at KABQ Thursday afternoon.
