Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
454 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

After a chilly start, cooler air stayed in place this afternoon
with temperatures in the lower 30s in far northern Kansas to the
upper 40s in south central and southeastern portions of the state.
These temperatures were roughly 25 degrees below normal. Residual
cloud cover from the low pressure system over the Great Lakes
region gradually pushed off to the east with only high clouds
remaining for all but far eastern Kansas this afternoon. Winds
were light and variable in the western third of the state with the
central and eastern thirds having northwest to west winds at 10
to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 30 mph.

Temperatures are forecast to drop overnight to the lower teens in
Nebraska to around 30 degrees in Oklahoma. Given spring green up
across eastern Kansas and Missouri, this has prompted freeze
headlines. If you have sensitive plants, you will want to cover or
take them in if possible. There is a chance for light rain or
light snow in the Panhandles and western Oklahoma overnight. Winds
should be light and variable. Cloud cover will move into the High
Plains but exit the eastern portions of the Central Plains.

Lingering chances for light rain or light snow will persist in the
Panhandles into western Oklahoma with a chance for flurries or
sprinkles in southwest and north central Kansas as well as south
central Nebraska during the morning hours. Otherwise a warming
trend is anticipated with afternoon temperatures climbing into the
50s for all but central and eastern Nebraska thanks to the recent
snow; temperatures are only expected to be in the upper 30s to
upper 40s. Light and variable winds will occur until the afternoon
when south winds reach 15 mph in the High Plains.
