.DISCUSSION...Dry conditions will be in place once again today as
a cold front stalls over northern Utah. Free flowing winds will be
out of the west and northwest as a result of this system. High
pressure will briefly build in tonight, providing dry, stable
conditions with light, terrain-driven winds. As we approach sunrise
Saturday morning, southerly winds will begin to increase above valley
inversions as a strong low begins to increase from the west. As this
low gets closer through the day Saturday, winds will increase along
with temperatures. Big changes for Sunday as a strong cold front
plows through the area. The cold front is forecast to pass through the
area in the afternoon, bringing showers. At the onset of precipitation,
snow levels will be in the 8000-9000 foot range. However, snow levels
will fall quickly behind the front, dropping all the way down to
5000 to 5500 feet by sunrise Monday morning. By this time, precipitation
will be coming to an end. Generally 1 to 4 inches of snow are expected
above 8000 feet elevation, with a dusting to an inch all the way down
to valley floors. As you might expect, this cold front will bring a
significant increase to humidity as well. We do begin to dry out
fairly quickly early next week but we remain cool through most of the
week.
