Dense fog is into KDEN, and from all indications will stick
around through about 15Z, before improving toward 16Z. Meanwhile,
most other airports including KBJC is sitting with a low stratus
deck, while KAPA is in the clear and should remain there this
morning although there has been a recent reinforcement of
northerly flow on the back side of the cyclone, so about a 20%
chance KAPA could go down.
After the fog and stratus lifts, VFR conditions will be the rule
through tonight. With regard to shower/storm potential, it looks
rather limited 21Z-01Z per the limited moisture once the cyclone
breaks down and shears east/northeast. Thus, we`ll go with VCSH
for this afternoon and evening. The best chance of rain will occur
after 02-03Z when better moisture arrives behind the cold front
and deeper north-northwest flow develops. That`s when IMC
ceilings will be more likely at KDEN. KBJC and KAPA could escape
without much shower activity being closer to the downslope off the
Front Range, but there has been a slight westward trend toward
more precipitation farther west this evening.
Winds...Northwest winds may become variable or turn southwest as
the surface cyclone shears to the east after 15Z. Then there
should be a trend (considerable uncertainty) for a more easterly
wind component 19Z-23Z, until the cold front and/or shower
outflows arrive (most likely 00Z-01Z) with gusty northwest to
northerly winds up to 35 knots. Those winds are then expected to
taper but still be gusty to around 20-25 knots overnight through
Friday morning.

VFR conditions and dry weather are expected this morning across the
TAF sites, and for much of the day. Early morning fog currently to
the east of COS is reducing visibility to below one mile at times.
While this fog is in place at this time, anticipate it to remain
east of COS while dissipating through the early morning hours. VFR
conditions and clear skies once again expected through the morning
into the afternoon. Will see an increase in clouds later this
afternoon, as an upper level system will move across the region.
This will result in showers across the higher terrain this afternoon,
but think any development will remain tied to the higher terrain. The
early morning lighter winds in place will increase through the
morning hours, with gusty west southwest winds expected this
afternoon. Think the strongest gusts will be across PUB and ALS,
where gusts in the 30-35 kt range are likely. VFR ceilings lower
later this evening, with mid clouds in place at all sites. Rain
expands in coverage later this evening, mainly for COS and PUB.
While generally light with vis staying 6sm or higher, would not be
surprised to see vis fall in the 3-5sm range at times, before this
rain shifts east of the terminals early Friday morning.

thunderstorms to the region in the afternoon with high elevation

.AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF
period, with increasing shower activity expected during the
afternoon hours and onward. As showers develop this afternoon, CIGs
are likely to lower to around 6-7kft AGL, beginning to obscure
portions of the local topography during the late afternoon/ early
evening. Periods of variable flow are expected through the morning
hours but will transition to a north wind around 18Z.
Rest of Utah and Southwest Wyoming...VFR conditions are expected to
prevail through a vast majority of the area through the valid TAF
period, however, increasing shower activity this afternoon may lead
to isolated MVFR conditions for the higher elevation terminals and/
or areas experiencing heavier showers. CIGs will lower through the
day, starting around 8kft AGL, dropping to around 5kft AGL by the
early evening hours. Local obscuration of local topography will be
the main concern. West to northwest winds are expected during the
afternoon hours across the western half of the area, with southwest
winds across the eastern half. Not expecting any significant gusts,
however, isolated strong gusts in excess of 35kts may be possible
around showers during the afternoon.

Scattered rain showers will continue this morning, but by
Thursday afternoon convection will develop/become widespread.
The chance of any terminal having a thunderstorm move directly
over it is too low for prevailing TS at this time, but the
chance is high enough for VCTS at KJAC from 19Z-00Z Thursday
afternoon. Have prevailing VFR at all terminals through the TAF
period, but brief reductions to MVFR are possible (Around a 1 in
3 chance) if a thunderstorm directly impacts a terminal. Most
terminals have prevailing VCSH Thursday afternoon as scattered
showers and thunderstorms pass through the area. Gusty erratic
wind will occur with thunderstorms and thunderstorm outflow
boundaries. Wind gusts at high as 40 mph will be possible with
thunderstorms. Mountain obscuration will occur at times as
BKN040- BKN100 CIGS continue across the area over the next 24
hours. The chance of thunderstorms will decrease after 06Z
tonight and be confined largely in vicinity of KCPR.

A prolonged window of scattered showers and thunderstorms is
expected to arrive during the forecast period. Ahead of this
occurring, expect several terminals to have CIG reductions
resulting in IFR/MVFR fluctuations, especially terminals east of
the Laramie Range. Low-end VFR is expected after 18z for
terminals, although it will be for a brief time as coverage of
showers and thunderstorms will move from west to east quickly
during today. Expect localized fluctuations to MVFR/IFR from
VIS/CIGs reductions during the afternoon, evening, and overnight
period. Wind gusts will pick up for most terminals in the 20-35
knot range, with isolated higher gusts when -SHRA/-TSRA are
present at terminals. Please see individual TAFs for further

Band of rain with embedded thunderstorms continues to slowly
shuffle to the northeast. Impacts at LBF from this are
anticipated to end by mid-morning but will be replaced with low
stratus prolonging MVFR conditions through much of the day
Thursday. For VTN, expect a slower onset of degraded flight
rules as morning activity remains to the southeast. MVFR
conditions will develop by late afternoon with degraded flight
rules lingering through the end of the period. Attention turns
to the threat for thunderstorms later tonight, potentially
affecting both terminals. Recent hi-resolution guidance has
begun shifting the focus further southeast which may limit
impacts to either terminal. For now, will maintain roughly the
same timing until trends become more concrete. Thunderstorm
activity through the end of the period will accompany the threat
of heavy rain and IFR if not LIFR CIGs.

For KGLD... IFR ceilings are forecast for the first few hours
this morning until cloud cover begins to clear. VFR conditions
are then forecast for the remainder of the period, though
thunderstorms are forecast to impact the terminal this
afternoon. While timing could change by a few hours still,
currently forecasting thunderstorms to form near and potentially
over the terminal between 21-23Z with storms possibly nearby
for a few hours after that. It would be good to look for updates
and watch from 18Z-03Z when storms are more likely. Otherwise,
near surface winds will strengthen during the day before
weakening as the sun sets and storms pass.
For KMCK... MVFR ceilings are forecast to lower to IFR within
the first few hours as moisture continues to move into the area.
These lower ceilings should persist through the day (30% chance
they lift during the afternoon hours) with near surface winds
strengthening from the southeast through the day. Thunderstorms
are then forecast to impact the terminal between 22-00Z with
chances for additional thunderstorms after that, but lower
confidence at this time. Thunderstorms will be possible between
20-08Z so keep an eye out on conditions and for forecast
updates.

Low level moisture advection has resulted in low MVFR and IFR
conditions this morning. As the warm front passes north of the
TAF sites today, CIGS will increase to MVFR/VFR with daytime
heating. Isolated thunderstorms could possibly affect the TAF
sites between 21z and 03z. If storms materialize they will be
severe with very large hail and damaging winds. Expect south
winds to increase to 20-25 kts today as surface low pressure
deepens on the high plains.

As of 11:30 UTC, latest satellite was observing a pocket of dry
air move across KAMA which is allowing for a brief period of VFR
conditions. These conditions are not expected to last long given
that clouds are already back filling into the area, so expected
CIGS to return to MVFR and IFR levels soon. As we head into the
late morning to early afternoon, CIGs are expected to improve
slowly with all site returning to VFR sometime around the 18Z
package. Winds will also look to pick at the surface this
afternoon with potential to gust above 30kts. As for severe
weather impacts, all models are still pointing to best chances
east of the terminals.

Patchy MVFR to IFR cigs remain across portions of far eastern NM
this morning. These will persist through approximately 15Z before
clearing out as strong southwesterly winds develop. By late
morning, southwest winds will be rapidly increasing across the
area. Gusts between 35 and 40kt will be common across western NM
with gusts up to 50 kts across eastern NM through the early
evening. BLDU may limit visibility, especially around KROW, where
vsbys could drop below 1 mile. An Airport Weather Warning will
also be likely for KABQ this afternoon for strong winds. Winds
will decrease for most areas this evening, but winds will remain
strong through Friday morning along and just east of the Sangre
de Cristo Mtns where mountain wave activity is expected. Strong
and erratic gusts will be possible due to mountain wave activity
from KRTN to KLVS to KCQC.
