Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
240 PM MDT Tue Apr 30 2024

.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:
- Strong west winds will diminish this evening. A Lake Wind
Advisory is effect until 9 PM.

- Rainshower chances will resume Wednesday Night and continue into
  Friday.

- Nighttime temperatures will drop below freezing in some places
  this week.

- Another round of rainshowers are expected next week, starting
  late Sunday.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:
A slow moving upper level low will be along the Montana/Canada
border until Friday. Look for cool temperatures with frequent
chances for precipitation. Look for winds to gradually settle down
tonight with a return of clouds and showers Wednesday Night.
Rainshowers are expected to end by Friday Night.

Upper ridge this weekend will allow for mainly dry weather and
warmer temperatures.

The next trough/low is expected early next week. This system
could be a prolific rain-maker as it stalls over the area,
possibly starting off May with above normal rainfall. This should
help out the farmers/ranchers as April was drier than normal for
most of of the CWA.

CONFIDENCE AND POTENTIAL DEVIATIONS FROM BASE FORECAST:

Confidence will be low-medium on rain amounts Wednesday Night-
Friday and again next week, but confidence will be medium that
rain chances will be elevated during both of those periods.

There is a low to medium chance that nighttime temperatures could
drop to or slip below the freezing mark this week. Some early
planted vegitation could suffer if these temperatures drop below
freezing. TFJ

.CLIMATE...
April will end up drier than normal for many areas from Highway 24
east to the North dakota border, however this recent rain will
help things. Phillips county received the most with some places
from Malta to Wagner (west of Malta) picking up over an inch!

Despite some places having a drier than normal April, it has been
close to normal for the Calendar and Water years.

A Monthly Climate Report for Glasgow for April should be issued
within the next couple days. TFJ
