...River Statement For The Alabama River...

.Recent heavy rainfall is producing rises on the Alabama River.
However, levels are expected to remain below established flood
stages, and any overflow along the river should be of minor nature.


The Alabama River at Selma.
* At 7:30 PM CDT Monday the stage was 41.0 feet.
* Action stage is 30.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 45.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 41.4 feet
  just after midnight tonight.
* Impact...At 45.0 feet...Extensive overflow of low lying lands in
  the area begins. Some low roads in the area begin to flood.


Another statement will be issued by Tuesday evening, or sooner if
conditions warrant.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather radio or your local media for
later statements concerning this event.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has
already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next
48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may
become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
