Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
132 PM MDT Sat May 11 2024

.DISCUSSION...High pressure is solidly in control of the weather
pattern in the Northern Rockies currently. The warmest
temperatures to date this year are expected today and tomorrow,
with many warming to 80F or warmer by Sunday. A few showers will
be possible in the mountains both days.

Monday the ridge weakens as a open wave drops out of British
Columbia. Breezy conditions develop during the afternoon with
showers overnight into Tuesday. This system will mainly affect
northwest MT, where a 0.25 inch precipitation in valleys is
possible and up to 0.50 inch in the mountains. Snow levels will be
quite high during this system mainly above 7500 feet.

The models diverge after Tuesday but in general expect a period of
active weather. By the end of the work week, the jet stream may
drift south of our area allowing a cooler air mass to pour into
the Northern Rockies.

&&

.AVIATION...High pressure will bring fair weather to the Northern
Rockies airspace today and through most of the weekend. Expect
mostly clear skies with light and variable winds today and
tonight.
