Area Forecast Discussion For Western SD and Northeastern WY

.DISCUSSION...This Evening Through Tuesday
Issued at 224 PM MDT Tue Apr 17 2018

Sharp upper trof over Rockies with large band of moisture ahead of
it shifting slowly eastward toward the Plains. Surface low has
redeveloped over northeastern CO with inverted trof east of the
Black Hills. Precip moving into eastern WY this afternoon and will
spread across the forecast area overnight. With the cooler
temperatures behind the surface trof, precip will change to snow.
An isolated thunderstorm is possible over far southwestern SD this
afternoon, althought CAPE values are low. Snow will exit south
central SD Wed morning, leaving dry weather through Thursday.
Another system cross the central Rockies into the Plains Friday.
Strong southerly surface gradient will bring Gulf moisture into
the area for another chance of rain showers with snow limited to
higher elevations. Another system will cross the northern Plains
Monday. Temperatures will remain slightly below normal.

A cold front will continue to move east through western South
Dakota with MVFR/IFR cigs developing and shifting east. Scattered
rain/snow will spread southeast, with conditions deteriorating
this afternoon and tonight. Winds will become northwest behind
the cold and remain gusty through the night. The winds combined
with rain and snow showers could lead to greatly reduced VIS at
times. Conditions will gradually improve to MVFR/VFR west to east
beginning after 00-01z over NE WY, trending slowly east tonight
over the western 2/3.

Expect VFR conditions across the region Wednesday.
