...MARCH 2018...ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND PRECIPITATION

MUCH OF THE FIRST HALF OF MARCH WAS CHARACTERIZED BY DRY WEATHER
WITH ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES. WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS, THE FIRST 9
DAYS OF THE MONTH HAD TEMPERATURES WELL ABOVE AVERAGE WHILE NO
PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED AT DENVER. IN FACT, THESE DRY CONDITIONS
WOULD CONTINUE THROUGH THE 17TH, ASIDE FROM 0.04 INCHES OF RAIN ON
THE 15TH. THE PATTERN BEGAN TO CHANGE ON FEBRUARY 18TH AS DENVER SAW
ITS BIGGEST SNOWFALL OF THE MONTH, COMING IN AT 2.9". MUCH OF THE
STATE SAW DECENT SNOWFALL FROM THIS EVENT AS WELL. AFTER A BRIEF
WARMUP ON THE 22ND AND 23RD, DENVER AGAIN SAW A PERIOD OF
PRECIPITATION WITH 4.1 INCHES OF SNOW FALLING FROM THE 26TH TO THE
28TH. DESPITE THE DRY START TO THE MONTH, DENVER FINISHED WITH ABOVE
AVERAGE PRECIPITATION AS 1.02 INCHES FEEL WHICH WAS 0.10 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THE COLD PERIOD DURING THE END OF THE MONTH WASN`T
STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERTAKE THE WARMTH AT THE BEGINNING SO THE MONTH
ENDED 2.3 DEGREES WARMER THAN NORMAL.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH OF WAS 42.7 DEGREES F, WHICH IS 2.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE
WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD OCCURRED IN 1910 WITH AN AVERAGE MONTHLY
TEMPERATURE OF 50.4 DEGREES F. THE COLDEST MARCH ON RECORD WAS
OCCURRED IN 1912 WITH A MONTHLY AVERAGE OF 26.4 DEGREES. THE YEAR OF
1912 HAPPENS TO BE DENVER`S COLDEST YEAR ON RECORD AND MARCH OF THAT
YEAR WAS CERTAINLY PART OF IT.

OCCURRING ON THE 18TH ALONG WITH AN UNSETTLED PERIOD IN THE FINAL
WEEK OF THE MONTH WHICH BROUGHT PRECIPITATION ON THE 26TH THROUGH
THE 29TH.

BELOW THE 1981-2010 AVERAGE OF 10.7 INCHES. THE MAJORITY OF THAT
TOTAL CAME FROM TWO SEPARATE STORM SYSTEMS IN THE FINAL WEEK. THE
REST OF THE MONTH`S SNOW CAME ON THE 18TH WHERE A WARM MOIST STORM
SYSTEM BROUGHT A RAIN AND SNOW MIX TO THE REGION WHERE MOST OF THE
SNOW FELL ALONG THE PALMER RIDGE AREA TO THE SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH OF
DENVER.
