FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
604 AM EDT Mon May 21 2018

...ELEVATED WILDFIRE POTENTIAL TODAY DUE TO WARM, DRY CONDITIONS
AND GUSTY WINDS, ESPECIALLY CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN...

.DISCUSSION: High pressure remains overhead today so dry conditions
will continue. The only exception could be some showers making it
into far southern Menominee county late this afternoon and evening
as a system slides by to the south of Upper Michigan. Southeast winds
today will be stronger than Sunday, with gusts of 15 to 20 mph this
afternoon, greatest over central Upper Michigan. Temperatures will
rise into the 70s away from Lake Michigan and RH values again will
drop to 17 to 22 percent over the interior, lowest west. On Tuesday,
winds will be lighter than today, with gusts around 10-12 mph.
Temperatures will be in the 70s, though it will be cooler along the
Great Lakes shores. Minimum RH values will drop to around 25 percent.
Expect warmer conditions on Wednesday with high temperatures rising
well into the 80s over the interior west. Minimum RH values will drop
to 20 to 25 percent. Winds should remain light.

There could be some showers over the west on Thursday, though most areas
will stay dry. Minimum RH values on Thursday will drop in the 30-40
percent range. Better chances of rain, in the form of scattered
showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday into Saturday as a
slow moving low pressure system crosses the Upper Great Lakes region.
Though some rain will occur in most areas, it is not certain this will
end up being a widespread significant rain across the area. Some showers
may linger into Sunday but right now it looks dry for Memorial Day.
