OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
908 PM CDT Thu Apr 11 2024

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

A low pressure system over Ohio will track northeastward and pass
Toronto Friday morning, deepening to around 28.9 inches. Northwesterly
gales are anticipated to develop over the open waters late during
the pre-dawn hours on Friday. A Gale Warning has been issued for
all of the open waters of Lake Michigan for northwest gales to
around 40 kts and high waves. The strongest winds and waves will
be towards the east side of the lake given the fetch, as well as
over the northern third of the lake.

Winds will then gradually weaken later Friday night into the
weekend as the low tracks northeast into Quebec. A small ridge of
high pressure will traverse Lake Michigan on Saturday, allowing
gentle winds (around 15 kts) to back from northwesterly to
southerly. A weak low pressure around 29.6 inches will then cross
the lake Sunday morning, veering winds to the north (roughly 15
kts or less) Sunday afternoon.
