Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS

.Discussion...
Latest satellite data shows mostly fair weather across the
territory. However, to the south of the Islands indicates
convective clouds as a stable airmass over American Samoa moves
into a boundary of an unstable airmass to the south. This unstable
airmass is associated with the South Pacific Convergence Zone
(SPCZ). A ridge currently holds the SPCZ away from the Islands,
though moisture from it may move pass through our area at times.
Expect isolated showers to remain through Sunday before becoming
scattered Monday as moisture from the SPCZ moves near.

Thereafter, an increasing trend in moisture and instability is
anticipated Tuesday through Wednesday as the trough to the north
merges with the SPCZ. An uptick in showers is possible Wednesday
through Thursday, though the potential for flooding is not
certain for this time. By Friday, another ridge will build in the
area, which will return stable conditions for the territory. Winds
will generally be light for the forecast period.

.Marine...
Latest wave heights have subsided below 8 feet as southerly swells
continues to exit coast waters. Hence, the advisories for surfs
and small crafts are cancelled. Model data shows wave heights
remaining below 8 feet through the new week. However, a northerly
swell will move in the area Monday. High surfs may be generated
from these swells, which may prompt a high surf advisory. By the
end of the week another south swells will move from the south.
