Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
1140 PM MDT Thu Mar 28 2024

...A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Baca County and eastern
Las Animas County for Friday from 11AM through 7PM...

...A Fire Weather Watch has been Saturday afternoon for Baca County
and eastern Las Animas County...

.Discussion...

A prolonged period of dry, windy, and abnormally warm conditions is
expected across our plains for tomorrow through Sunday. This will
mean three days of above normal temperatures and increasing wind
speeds each day as well, with Sunday being the most impactful and
most widespread day of expected Fire Danger for the public. Though
windy conditions are expected across a majority of our southern
plains, we have gone ahead with a Red Flag Warning for eastern Las
Animas and Baca Counties, where humidities will be driest. We have
also gone ahead with a Fire Weather Watch for our southeastern
plains for Saturday afternoon as well, though this area could be
expanded in both timing and/or areal extent as this period gets
closer in time. Fire Weather Highlights are Very Likely (>90%) for
Sunday well.

Smoke ventilation rates will be very good to excellent both Friday
and Saturday afternoons.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
