WARM WEATHER WHICH REACHED ITS PEAK IN THE LAST HALF OF FEBRUARY
CONTINUED IN LESS DRAMATIC FORM INTO THE FIRST PART OF MARCH. THIS
EARLY SEASON WARMTH MAY HAVE LED SOME RESIDENTS TO EXPECT AN EARLY
SPRING, BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT WAS IN STORE. THE FIRST OF TWO
SIGNIFICANT NOR`EASTERS BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW ON THE 7TH AND 8TH. ABOUT
A WEEK LATER THE SECOND STORM BROUGHT MORE HEAVY SNOW ON THE 13TH
AND 14TH. COLDER TEMPERATURES MOVED IN BEHIND THIS STORM WITH THREE
STRAIGHT DAYS BELOW FREEZING IN THE MIDDLE OF MARCH. THE WORST OF
THE COLD BEGAN TO ABATE JUST AS ASTRONOMICAL SPRING BEGAN, WITH THE
REST OF THE MONTH SEEING GRADUALLY WARMING TEMPERATURES. THE LAST 4
DAYS OF MARCH SAW TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S, INCLUDING 55 DEGREES ON
MARCH 30, SPRING-LIKE WARMTH WHICH HAD NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE FEBRUARY.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 32.5 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.6
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. ALTHOUGH DAYTIME HIGHS WERE COLDER THAN
NORMAL, NIGHTTIME LOWS WERE WARM ENOUGH TO BRING THE MONTHLY AVERAGE
ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST MARCH ON RECORD WAS IN 2010 WHEN THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 39.4 DEGREES. THE COLDEST WAS IN 2014 WHEN
IT WAS 24.5 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 2.55 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.82 INCHES
BELOW NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL DURING THE TWO MAJOR
SNOWSTORMS THAT OCCURRED, EACH DROPPING MORE THAN AN INCH OF LIQUID
EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION ON THE 7TH AND 8TH AND AGAIN ON THE 13TH
AND 14TH. THE DRIEST MARCH ON RECORD WAS IN 1965 WHEN ONLY 0.59
INCHES WAS RECORDED. THE WETTEST WAS IN 1953 WHEN 9.71 INCHES FELL.

NO DAILY RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED IN MARCH 2018.
