.OVERVIEW...

THE LATEST DROUGHT MONITOR ISSUED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF
AGRICULTURE ON JUNE 12  SHOWS D2 TO D3 DROUGHT ACROSS PARTS OF
SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS, GENERALLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM
SYRACUSE TO GARDEN CITY TO ASHLAND. THE D3 DROUGHT INCLUDES MORTON,
STANTON AND STEVENS COUNTIIES, AND WESTERN FORD COUNTY SOUTHWESTWARD
INTO MEADE COUNTY.

CURRENT ENSO STATE...

THE ENSO STATE IS NEUTRAL AND THE OFFICIAL FORECAST FROM NCEP CALLS
FOR A NEUTRAL STATE THROUGH NOVEMBER.

.HYDROLOGIC IMPACTS...

NONE.

.FIRE DANGER IMPACTS...

GREENUP FROM SPRING RAINS HAS ALLEVIATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.

.AGRICULTURAL IMPACTS...

SOIL MOISTURE DEFICITS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE NORMAL FOR
SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS REGION PER CPC THROUGH THE SUMMER, PARTICULARLY
ACROSS FAR SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS.

OUTLOOK...

THE SEASONAL DROUGHT OUTLOOK CALLS FOR PERSISTENT DROUGHT ACROSS
PARTS OF SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS THROUGH THE SUMMER SINCE SUMMER
PRECIPITATION IS ONLY EXPECTED TO BE NEAR NORMAL. THE WORST
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ACROSS FAR SOUTHWESTERN KANSAS.  FALL
PRECIPITATION STARTING IN OCTOBER IS EXPECTED TO BE ABOVE NORMAL.
