...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Notice to all users of the Rio Grande River Gage near Mercedes
(MCDT2) that the National Weather Service Forecast Office in
Brownsville, Texas will be discontinuing hydrologic services. This
change will take effect on Monday, May 21st, 2018. This location
is a forecast point and forecasts are issued only during times of
high water levels on the river. In addition, gauge readings are
taken manually at this location. Observations are no longer
provided for this location. Therefore, the National Weather
Service is no longer able to provide forecast services for this
site.

The discontinuation of river forecast services at the gage for the Rio
Grande River near Mercedes will also be noted on the National
Weather Service webpage at:

https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=bro (all lower case)

Your local National Weather Service Office (NWS) will continue to
work with local Emergency Management, City and County Personnel
along with the U.S. International Boundary Water Commission
(USIBWC) to determine if river forecast services need to be
reestablished for this gage location.
