.DISCUSSION...
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to spread eastward across
the TN Valley this morning, as a warm front lifts northeastward
through the region. Although a few storms will be capable of
producing brief strong winds, small hail and frequent lightning,
the main risk from this activity will be locally heavy rainfall
and flooding. In the wake of morning precipitation, a more
scattered coverage of showers and thunderstorms is expected this
afternoon before dissipating shortly after sunset. However, a
subtle surface trough drifting southeastward into northern AL may
force the development of scattered afternoon storms once again on
Tuesday. Smoke dispersion indices will be in the good range today
(due to mixing heights between 4-5 kft and SW transport winds of
15-20 MPH), but should fall into the generally good range
tomorrow. In the extended forecast, a warm and humid airmass will
continue to support daily chances for showers and thunderstorms
through the end of the work week, with a few severe thunderstorms
possible on both Tuesday night and Wednesday night. A cooler and
drier airmass of continental origins will overspread the region in
the wake of a cold front on Friday and should linger through the
beginning of next week.
