Today:

Scattered light showers and mostly cloudy skies lingered over eastern
Iowa overnight, but farther west it was dry and mostly clear.
Temperatures heading toward daybreak varied from the middle 30s
northwest to middle 40s east under more clouds. Winds were generally
northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Skies should clear later this morning leading to plenty of sunshine
statewidey. Winds will be brisk from the northwest however, with
gusts as high as 25 to 35 mph northeast. Temperatures should be in the
50s by late morning with eventual highs in the upper 50s and 60s.

Tonight and beyond:

The weekend looks dry across the region with the main weather theme
warming temperatures. Highs should be in the upper 70s and 80s with
partly sunny to sunny skies. Lows are expected to range from the
middle 30s northeast to middle 40s southwest tonight, and then in the
upper 40s to 50s both Saturday and Sunday nights.

The weather story chances to start the next work week however. Chances
for showers and thunderstorms will return Monday, and increase into
Tuesday. Some of the storms may be strong to severe from Iowa south.
Highs Monday should be in the middle 70s to middle 80s, and mainly in
the 70s Tuesday. The warm spell looks to end by the end of next week
however with cooler, more seasonal temperatures by that time.
