Today:

Skies varied from partly cloudy to cloudy overnight with scattered
light showers over the eastern two-thirds of the state. Temperatures
heading toward daybreak varied from around 40 northwest to the lower
50s southeast. Winds ranged from light and variable east to 10 to 20
mph farther west.

Chances for showers will continue later today over the northeast half
of Iowa, with a few thunderstorms also possible. It will become breezy
statewide as well with northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph, and gusts 25
to 35 mph. These brisk winds, coupled with dry vegetation and low
humidities, will combine to produce elevated fire weather conditions
west. Highs should be in the middle 50s to middle 60s.

Tonight and beyond:

The potential for precipitation will decrease through the evening,
leading to dry conditions overnight and through the weekend. It will
be breezy again Friday with highs across the region ranging from the
upper 50s northeast to lower 70s southwest. Even warmer temperatures
can be expected Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 70s and 80s.
Chances for showers and thunderstorms will return to the forecast next
week however, from Monday into Tuesday.
