Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
326 AM CDT Mon Apr 29 2024

Today:

A few spotty showers ahead of a cold front were lingering over
eastern Iowa early this morning as the low pressure meandered its way
into southern Minnesota. Clouds were spiraling back into the state so
while there are a few clear spots, most areas had cloud cover.
Temperatures ranged from the low 60s with a southerly wind ahead of
the cold front over eastern Iowa to the upper 40s with a west wind over
western Iowa.

As the sun rises, we won`t have to talk about severe weather chances
for today with a dry forecast in store for Iowans. Temperatures will
peak in the middle 50s over northern Iowa to the middle and upper 60s
over southern Iowa. It will be a bit breezy with winds from a
westerly direction averaging 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight and beyond:

As skies clear tonight and winds calm, temperatures will fall into the
upper 30s in some places over northern Iowa with 40s in most other
locations. In addition, patchy fog may develop.

Severe storm chances will make their return Tuesday afternoon into
Tuesday night as storms track out of Nebraska into Iowa. The main
threats are damaging wind gust and large hail. The active pattern
will continue through the middle and latter part of the week with
intervals of storm chances. Temperatures will be above normal much of
the week with highs in the 60s and 70s.
