OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Easterly winds will continue across the lake this morning as low
pressure of 29.2 inches continues northeast towards the Great
Lakes region. Winds today will remain easterly, but will begin to
accelerate throughout the day as the low approaches, leading to
the likelihood of gales across much of the lake by this evening.
As such, we have upgraded the Gale Watch to a Gale Warning that is
in effect from this evening through Wednesday evening for various
parts of the lake. Winds across much of the lake will decelerate
and shift southerly to southwesterly Wednesday as the low moves
north across central Wisconsin, but easterly gales are still
possible over the far northern portion through Wednesday evening
before also turning westerly and decelerating. Westerly winds will
then continue Thursday morning before becoming southwesterly by
Thursday afternoon for the entire lake as the low departs the
area.

4 ft building to 4 to 7 ft occasionally to 9 ft.
.TONIGHT...East gales to 35 kt becoming southeast to 30 kt.
Showers with a chance of thunderstorms. Waves 6 to 9 ft
occasionally to 12 ft building to 8 to 11 ft occasionally to
14 ft, then subsiding to 6 to 9 ft occasionally to 12 ft.
.WEDNESDAY...Southeast winds to 30 kt becoming south 15 to 25 kt
late in the morning, then becoming southwest 10 to 20 kt in the
afternoon. Showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms in the
morning, then showers likely in the afternoon. Waves 4 to 7 ft
occasionally to 9 ft subsiding to 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.
.WEDNESDAY NIGHT...West winds 10 to 20 kt increasing to 15 to
25 kt. Waves 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft.
.THURSDAY...Northwest winds 10 to 20 kt becoming west 10 to
15 kt. Waves 3 to 5 ft subsiding to 2 to 4 ft.
