WINTER BEGAN WITH 64 DEGREES ON DECEMBER 1, ALTHOUGH COOLER AIR WAS
MOVING IN THROUGH THE DAY ON THE BACK SIDE OF AN EXITING STORM
SYSTEM. MILD WEATHER CONTINUED FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE NEXT STORM
ARRIVED ON DECEMBER 5. THIS ONE BROUGHT RAIN AND A STICKY WET
SNOWFALL AND RAIN WHICH TOTALED 3.8 INCHES. EVEN COOLER WEATHER
MOVED IN BEHIND THIS STORM. BY MID DECEMBER, A WEEK OF BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS STRETCH A STRONG STORM
SYSTEM BROUGHT HEAVY SNOW ON DECEMBER 17 WHEN 10.1 INCHES WAS
MEASURED IN A LITTLE MORE THAN 12 HOURS. THE COLD WEATHER CONTINUED
A FEW MORE DAYS, BOTTOMING OUT AT 4 ABOVE ZERO ON DECEMBER 19. BUT
BY CHRISTMAS, WARMER WEATHER HAD RETURNED. A STORM SYSTEM ON
CHRISTMAS DAY BROUGHT 62 DEGREES OF WARMTH AND MORE THAN 1.5 INCHES
OF RAIN. SNOW FELL ON 5 OF THE FIRST 6 DAYS OF JANUARY, BUT IT
NEVER AMOUNTED TO VERY MUCH. DAYTIME HIGHS FREQUENTLY REACHED THE
UPPER 30S TO 50 DEGREES, BUT THE CLOUDY WEATHER KEPT NIGHTTIME LOWS
MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL. THIS PERIOD OF MILD WEATHER PEAKED ON
JANUARY 16 WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 50 DEGREES AND MORE THAN 1
INCH OF RAIN FELL. SOME COOLER WEATHER RETURNED BEHIND THIS STORM.
THE NEXT BIG STORM WAS ON FEBRUARY 1 AN 2 WHEN 7.9 INCHES OF SNOW
AND SLEET FELL. A VERY COLD ARCTIC AIR MASS SPILLED INTO THE
CENTRAL UNITED STATES IN EARLY FEBRUARY, AND NEW ENGLAND FOUND
ITSELF ON THE EASTERN EDGE OF THIS AIR MASS. THIS BROUGHT
CONSISTENTLY COLD WEATHER AND A FEW WINTER STORMS, BUT SPARED THE
REGION THE MORE BRUTAL COLD OBSERVED TO THE WEST. THE TEMPERATURE
STAYED BELOW FREEZING FOR THE BETTER PART OF TWO WEEKS IN MID
FEBRUARY. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 4 ABOVE ZERO ON FEBRUARY 10.
SNOW, SLEET, AND FREEZING RAIN FELL ON FEBRUARY 16 WITH MORE SNOW
FALLING ON FEBRUARY 19. FINALLY MORE MILD WEATHER RETURNED FOR THE
LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE WINTER WAS 29.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS
2.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE WARMEST WINTER WAS IN 2015-16 WHEN THE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 33.7 DEGREES. THE COLDEST WAS IN 1947-48
WHEN IT WAS 19.3 DEGREES.

A TOTAL OF 9.18 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 0.10 INCHES
ABOVE NORMAL. THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION FELL IN DECEMBER ON 5TH
WITH 2.09 INCHES OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION. THE WETTEST
WINTER WAS IN 1886-87 WHEN 15.41 INCHES WAS RECORDED. THE DRIEST
WAS IN 1930-31 WHEN ONLY 5.56 INCHES FELL.

THERE WAS 44.9 INCHES OF SNOWFALL FOR THE WINTER SEASON. THE
HEAVIEST SNOW WAS ON DECEMBER 17 WHEN 10.1 INCHES WAS MEASURED.

HISTORICAL RECORDS AT MANCHESTER BEGAN IN 1885, BUT WITHIN THIS
RECORD THERE REMAIN NUMEROUS YEARS OF UNAVAILABLE DATA. DUE TO
THIS, HISTORICAL RECORDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AS SOME
SIGNIFICANT EXTREMES MAY BE MISSING FROM THE DATA. MORE CONSISTENT
MODERN RECORDS BEGAN IN 1998 AND CONTINUE TO THE PRESENT.
