FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
504 AM EDT Sun May 12 2024

...Cold front this afternoon brings showers and thunderstorms...

.DISCUSSION: Minor sprinkles or isolated light showers moves into
the eastern UP after dawn this morning with gradually clearing
over the west. Highs this afternoon are expected in the upper 50s
to mid 60s over the east, mid to upper 60s in the Keweenaw, and
upper 60s to upper 70s over the west; a few spots in the interior
could hit low 80s. With drying and clearing in the west this
morning, RHs should fall near 30% over the west with min RHs in
the east likely only dipping into the 40s and 50s. Southerly wind
gusts ahead of the afternoon cold front are expected up to 20-25
mph.

A cold front then moves through this afternoon, bringing showers
and thunderstorms to most of the Upper Peninsula. Accumulations
are expected around a few hundreths for most, but 0.25-0.5 inches
is possible for stronger showers and storms in the south central
Upper Peninsula. Once the showers and thunderstorms move southeast
out of the area with the cold front this evening, a dry period
begins. Dry weather holds through Wednesday as high pressure
extends overhead. Mixing during this period will result in RHs
approaching 30% over the interior west and gusts nearing 20 mph on
Tuesday and Wednesday.
