419 FNUS56 KOTX 111100 FWFOTX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern Washington and North Idaho National Weather Service Spokane WA 400 AM PDT Sat May 11 2024 .DISCUSSION... High pressure persist with dry and warm weather through Sunday, but a system will start to approach the region. An onshore flow will return to the western side of the state on today, with breezy winds through the Cascade Valleys toward evening. The system will approach Sunday and move through the region Sunday nigh into Tuesday. The biggest fire weather concerns will be across central Washington where breezy to locally gusty west winds following several days of hot and dry conditions will result in elevated fire weather conditions. The winds will be most notable Sunday evening near the Cascades and western Columbia Basin districts, declining some overnight before being revitalized Monday afternoon. However RH values will be on the rise for Monday. The system will be mostly dry, with 15-25% chance of showers near the Cascade crest and northeast WA and north ID Sunday night into Monday. Some isolated embedded thunderstorms will be possible Sunday evening near the Canadian border and again Monday afternoon over a broader portion of northeast WA and north ID. Temperatures cool going into Monday. Model guidance diverges going into the middle to late part of next week, with some showing warm high pressure rebounding and others bringing a cooler trough. Until models start to settle down confidence will be lower.
