Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1239 AM PDT Tue Apr 16 2024

.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will result in an extended period of
warm weather across the region. Well above normal temperatures,
breezy afternoon winds, and dry conditions are expected from
Wednesday through the early part of next week.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tuesday and Wednesday.

They synoptic pattern over the next couple of days features a low
pressure system over southern Canada and it`s associated jet
energy over the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies moving
eastward through Wednesday. Closer to our region, a weak upper
level trough could bring a few high clouds to our area today with
a more substantial batch of high clouds expected Wednesday
afternoon. Winds today will be generally light with some
gustiness working its way into the forecast for Wednesday.
Temperatures today will be slightly above normal but then quickly
warm to well above normal on Wednesday which will give us our
first opportunity to reach the 90 degree mark in Las Vegas. NBM
probabilities take a noticeable jump on Wednesday giving a 30%
chance of 90 degrees in Las Vegas.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Monday.

Dry and mild conditions will prevail through the long term period as
high pressure will remain anchored over the region. There will be
some passing high clouds Thursday and Friday related to an
offshore low pressure system getting absorbed into the westerly
flow aloft that will prevail over the region, but the clouds
shouldn`t be substancial enough to cost us much more than a
degree or two on the afternoon highs. Regardless, temperatures
will remain several degrees above normal. The ridging through the
end of the week will be fairly subtle and low amplitude, but will
amplify Sunday and Monday across the Southwestern states, with
temperatures responding with additional warming. NBM probabilities
now exceed 50 percent for reaching 90 degrees in Las Vegas Sunday
and Monday, with the more likely day being Sunday with ~60
percent chances. In addition to the warm temperatures, daily
afternoon breezes can be expected, but nothing strong enough to
warrant headlines.
