Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
244 AM CDT Mon May 6 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 12 PM CDT/11 AM MDT TODAY TO 9
PM CDT/8 PM MDT THIS EVENING...
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH
TUESDAY EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Critically dry fuels exist west of Pecos River. Min RH below
critical 15% and poor overnight recovery occur west of the dryline
today through Thursday, with recent wetting rains east of Pecos
River limiting eastward extent of fire risk. Red Flag Warning is
in effect this afternoon through evening for the Sacramento
Foothills, Southeast New Mexico plains, Guadalupe and Davis
Mountains, Davis Mountains Foothills, Culberson County, and upper
Trans Pecos, and Fire Weather Watch is in effect for these same
areas Tuesday. Gusty west winds each afternoon today through
Thursday along with critical min RH and poor overnight recovery
contribute to above normal temperatures and critical fire weather
conditions for western portions of the area. Fire risk persists
over higher elevations of West Texas south of a cold front
Thursday before increased moisture, better overnight recovery, and
cooler temperatures behind the front limit fire risk for the
entire area into the weekend.
