Hydrologic Statement

...Significant rises expected on the following rivers:
Kalamazoo River at Marshall...Comstock...and New Richmond...
St. Joseph River at Burlington...

.Heavy rainfall fell over the Kalamazoo and St. Joseph basins
over the past 48 hours with basin averages of one two inches
common with isolated higher amounts.  Another round of rain...
potentially heavy...will occur later today into tonight...
which will only aggravate the flooding situation.  The following
forecast is based on observed and forecast 24 hour precipitation.

For the Kalamazoo River At Marshall... the latest stage was 5.8 feet
at 10 AM Monday.   No flooding is forecast.  The maximum stage
forecasted is 6.5 feet after midnight tonight.  Flood stage is 8.0
feet.  At 6.0 feet... River is bankfull. Expect minor flooding of
farmland and pastures adjacent to the river..

For the Kalamazoo River At Comstock... the latest stage was 6.4 feet
at 10 AM Monday.   No flooding is forecast.  The maximum stage
forecasted is 7.8 feet Wednesday evening.  Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
At 8.0 feet... Expect minor flooding in park in Comstock..

For the Kalamazoo River Near New Richmond... the latest stage was
14.4 feet at 10 AM Monday.   No flooding is forecast.  The maximum
stage forecasted is 15.5 feet early Wednesday morning.  Flood stage
is 17.0 feet.  At 15.0 feet... River is bankfull and begins to spill
over into large swampy areas along the river. Boardwalk along the
river would become flooded..

For the St Joseph River At Burlington... the latest stage was 5.8
feet at 10 AM Monday.   No flooding is forecast.  The maximum stage
forecasted is 6.2 feet tomorrow morning.  Flood stage is 6.5 feet.
At 6.0 feet... River is bankfull, minor overflow into low lying
wooded areas along the river begins..

Safety message...Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
