Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
938 PM EDT Sat May 4 2024

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...A weak 29.9 inch low pressure trough currently over
eastern Lake Superior moves out of the area later tonight, then
ridging at 30.1 inches returns across the lake on Sunday. Ridging
shifts east early next week as a broad 29.2 inch low pressure
develops on the Northern Plains on Monday. A strong pressure
gradient over western Lake Superior begins to set up Tuesday
morning as a deepening 29.0 inch low pushes eastward against 30.0
inch ridging over far northern Ontario. This gradient loosens into
Wednesday as the Northern Plains low weakens and a 29.5, and a
29.4 inch low ejecting out of the Plains moves south of Lake
Superior. After a brief window of height rises late in the day
Wednesday, another 29.4 inch low moves from the Central Plains
into the Lower Great Lakes early Thursday.
